THE OFFICER'S WIFE

7pm Friday 27th July

Presented in association with Kresy-Siberia

Director: Piotr Uzarowicz

Producer: Julie Janata, Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, Piotr Uzarowicz

A documentary about the collision of truth, justice and memory in a family tragedy.

An American who lost touch with his Polish roots, discovers a forgotten safe deposit box where he finds his deceased grandmother's memoirs. She writes about her husband, a Polish officer who was on a Soviet hit list and after he was killed, she and her sons along with 2 million other Polish families were deported to Siberia. Within a year, over half were dead. The few that did escape found themselves pawns of both British and US agencies that told them they cannot discuss what happened.

This is their story.

The Officer's Wife premiered at the Camerimage Film Festival in 2010 and screened at the Chicago International Film Festival Summer Series in June, 2011 to sold out crowds, Ekran Film Fest in Toronto, and the Three Rivers Film Fest in Pittsburgh, PA.

Sponsors of the reception include Vitek Vodka and Grill'd Parramatta.
